What Drives Us
Prio1 Onboard Medical & Safety Training is dedicated to improving the response to medical emergencies and safety onboard yachts. Our mission: to ensure even more crew members know how to respond effectively to medical emergencies and perform life-saving actions before receiving remote or on-site assistance from professional emergency services.
Quick and adequate response to medical emergencies
increases the chance of survival, reduces the severity of injuries,
and improves long-term outcomes and overall quality of life
What We Do
Prio1 offers bespoke, goal-oriented onboard training focused on handling medical emergencies onboard, tailored to the specific learning needs and operational conditions of the crew. We train crew on their own yacht, providing the comfort and familiarity of their own working environment.
Our aim is to increase crew awareness and engagement, deepen their knowledge, optimise their skills, and encourage the adoption of preventative measures.
Together, we can improve the response to acute medical emergencies and safety on board yachts
Founders Prio1
Onboard Medical & Safety Training
Cornelis Laffra Co-founder - Trainer
Cornelis grew up in a boating and water sports family, which led him to a career in yachting, more than 20 years ago. He spent many years as chief officer and captain of multiple yachts, working and sailing in diverse regions around the world. As a captain sailing in remote regions and on ocean crossings, Cornelis became acutely aware of how vulnerable yachting crew and guests are in case of medical emergencies, and of the life-saving importance of having a well-trained and dependable crew. With Prio1, he aims to minimise health and safety risks for crew and guests, and support crew in their confidence and ability to make a difference in case emergencies do occur.
'First response provided by crew in the event of medical emergencies is critically important, especially in situations where professional support may be far away, like on yachts'
Anne Rixt Wadman Co-founder - Trainer
Anne Rixt has 15+ years of experience as an RN, Intensive Care and Ambulance nurse. Specialised in pre-hospital emergency care and remote medicine, Anne is acutely aware of the potential safety risks and potential medical emergencies in maritime setting.
With Prio1 and as member of the medical team, she is able to transfer her passion onto yachting crew, giving them the skills and routines to act in case of medical emergencies. Aiming to improve onboard safety and ensure crew is well-prepared for any medical emergencies that may arise.
